UPCOMING EVENTS

We are honored to have Ed McCallum, Senior Principal in McCallum Sweeney Consulting out of Greenville, SC, with us on Wednesday, February 15.  We invite you to join us for a special presentation on ‘Successful Recruitment Requires Readiness’ at 10:30 am at the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Grand Strand Campus Conference Center.  Mr. McCallum is a very well respected site selection and economic development consultant across the US and knows the Myrtle Beach market well.  He evaluated our International Aerospace and Technology Park at the Myrtle Beach International Airport for the Boeing project, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to show him the amazing progress that’s been made.

While great strides have been made in readying the infrastructure in our community for future economic development projects, Readiness as a community to work together as a team in evaluating and accommodating projects is equally as important.  Mr. McCallum will be able to share some ‘best practices’ with us as well as some insight as to how Horry County is positioned to compete.

AVCRAFT TECHNICAL SERVICES TO CREATE 150 JOBS IN HORRY COUNTY

December 29, 2011 – Myrtle Beach, S.C. –AvCraft Technical Services, an aircraft maintenance, repair, and modification provider, today announced an expansion in Horry County. The $1 million capital investment will generate 150 new jobs in the Grand Strand Area.

“Location was a major factor in choosing to expand operations here.  Myrtle Beach gives us a centralized location to most efficiently reach our customer base,” said Mike Hill, President of AvCraft.  “Horry County officials and the Myrtle Beach Regional EDC made expanding here a very easy process.”

Tracing its history in Myrtle Beach back to 2004, AvCraft Technical Services began operations in 2010. AvCraft Technical Services is a leading supplier of high quality, cost effective heavy maintenance, structural repairs, and aircraft modification and refurbishment for the Dornier 328 jet and turboprop, Piaggio Aero Avanti I and II, Bombardier Dash 8 and ATR 42 and 72 turboprops and certain components.  It also provides on call services to most of the airlines servicing the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

“AvCraft's decision to expand their workforce by 150 employees is a tremendous testimony of our attractiveness as an aviation destination. I am thankful for the company's commitment to Horry County and proud of our economic development team for this terrific announcement,” said Tom Rice, Chairman of the Horry County Council.

The state of South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved the company for $100,000 in capital improvements, and the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation (MBREDC) matched with an additional $100,000 from Horry County local incentive funds.

The MBREDC, the North Eastern Strategic Alliance (NESA), the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Horry County Council, and the Myrtle Beach International Airport all came together in support of this project.  “AvCraft is a tremendous asset to our community, and this project is just the beginning for aviation-related businesses locating and expanding in the Myrtle Beach region,” said Doug Wendel, Chairman of the MBREDC.

The majority of the 150 new employees will be in technically skilled occupations, and the remaining new hires will be in administrative and support functions. AvCraft is also using the nearby location of the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) for workforce training of future potential employees.  Anyone interested in employment opportunities with this company should visit www.avcraft.com
